«Alabama Song" (also know as "Whiskey Bar»Or«Moon of Alabama») Is a song originally published on Hauspostille de Bertolt Brecht (1927). With music from Kurt Weill, was used in 1927 for "Mahagonny-Songspiel" and then for the opera by Weill and Brecht called: Rise and fall of the city of Mahagonny. In the latter, it is carried out by the character of Jenny and her fellow prostitutes in the first act. Musically it contains elements of fox-trot, blues and advanced soprano coloraturas, sung by Jenny Corless. It was also used for the movie The World's End.
The lyrics of the song «Alabama Song» are in English and performed in that language, even when the opera is performed in its original German.
The song was versioned in 1967 by the rock group The Doors under the name of: Alabama Song (Whiskey Bar). The Doors singer, Jim Morrison, changed the second verse and also the original verse, Show me the way to the next little dollar, omitted.
This is the version that Alan adapted for the ukulele;)
