To be honest, I didn't know there were guitaleles until they arrived at the store. I saw them and the first thing I thought is "this is a guitar". The first thing I did was to tune it as if it were a normal guitar E, A, D, G, B, E. But it didn't resonate well so I started to investigate and here I bring you everything about the Guitalele.
Well, the main difference is the size. The guitalele is a little smaller than a conventional guitar. Its height barely reaches around 80 cm in height and the widest part barely reaches 25 cm.
The tuning is not that of a normal guitar but that of a ukulele. The first four strings are tuned G, C, E, A. and the last two are tuned A, D. Do you find the difference? The guitalele is tuned 4 tones higher than the guitar!
Although it has 6 strings these are thinner than the normal guitar, since the size is smaller the strings need to be thinner to reach to stretch those four tones of difference.
In short ... Sounds like the guitar with a bonnet on the fifth fret. But the guitalele having the smallest soundboard, not having a bonnet and having the thinnest and tense strings, a sweeter, sharper and more sound sound is produced sustain
If you already know how to play the guitar I invite you to play a song that you already master but now in the guitar, you will see that it feels weird to play something and listen to something different. (Well, we'll be playing four tones above usual).
No, the strings of a guitalele they are thinner. It is very difficult to get strings of guitalele and if you need one urgently I recommend some for Spanish guitar (so ask them specifically). Since they are made that when they are put on a guitar they are soft, in your guitar they will become a little tense but it will resonate incredible.
The first advantage is portability. The guitalele occupies much less space than a guitar to travel, to save, to teach a child to play the guitar. So if you are a guitarist who always wants to be practicing everywhere, you have already found the definitive alternative!
