To begin with, you should know that a solo project does not mean that it will only be you and you cannot include other people in your project.
The difference between a band and a solo project is for the most part that in a band all its members have a voice and a vote in addition to working together to achieve a goal or sound that has been defined by all the members, unlike projects such as soloist where it is a single person who decides the direction, sound and ensemble of the project.
To take your project as a soloist you must take the same creative process that you would do in a band like:
-Practice until you master your instrument
-Define your sound and musical references
-Be organized and schematic with your creation time
(You can read more of this in our blog about Putting together your own band.)
But unlike being tied to other people to rehearse or create, you must be the one who monitors the progress and makes decisions that lead to the project sounding in a completely different way or another.
If you consider yourself a creative person and whose talent and work exceeds the time that other people can or want to devote to a musical project we recommend that you start your personal project where you can define times and schedules. This does not mean that you have to leave other projects or bands, but in your solo project you will dedicate your time without being attached to the progress that a project together with other people can delay.
But does this mean you have to do everything alone? The answer is no.
To paraphrase the acclaimed film director Quentin tarantino, to be an excellent director you don't need to know how to do everything, but rather know how to hire the right person to do the job for you.
This works in music in different ways, for example. If you dream that your solo project is accompanied by another guitar or other instrument that complements the sound you are looking for, you must find the person who has the skills you are looking for and who wants to collaborate with you on your project.
If you want your music to have a very specific sound, the best thing you can do is work with a music producer and guide you towards your goal.
The same concept applies to make the art of your album, merchandise or a work team that helps you spread your work.
Remember that a Solo project is a personal project in which many people can help or join you but the most important part you must do on your own.
Many of the people who can help you achieve your goal as musicians, producers or technicians are professionals so you should consider paying for their services; Remember this project is yours, so you must cover your needs and those of the team that will help you achieve it.
The most important part of this and every creative project is that you enjoy and have a good time defining your project and experiencing where you want to take it.
