It is not a secret that here in "The Ukuleleria" our instrumentMy favorite is the Ukulele but ¡EI know it is inevitable! With so many advantages, successes and curious facts around it, it is no coincidence that everyone ends up falling in love with this little instrument and it is thanks to that love that awakens in all of us that we decided to give you a list of
1.- The flea that bit in Hawaii
Let's start at the beginning with a very curious fact about the name of the Ukulele and although it is not so little known, it is one of our favorites since the name of the instrument means "Jumping Flea" and although we would not have thought of calling it well, always toWe will thank whoever did.
2.- A non-Hawaiian instrument?
Although the Ukulele was baptized and popularized in Hawaii for being used in their traditional musicThere are records that this instrument was not born there and this leaves us as perplexed as you, but they still have the credit in Hawaii because it was there that its predecessor was adapted, which was an instrument called "Machete" or "Cavaquinho" that came from Portugal.
3.- Ukubajo and Ukubanjo (U bass and Banjolele)
Our small instrument always adapts to the needs of the musician who recibe and embraces it and one of the tests more notable of that is the appearance of the Ukubajo and the Ukubanjo which, as their names suggest, are a Ukulele fused with a bass and a Ukulele fused with a banjo, respectively and that thanks to these curious combinations, give us the opportunity to appreciate new sounds but always of the same hand in hand with our always reliable and comfortable Ukulele.
With a lower tuning and thicker strings comes the Ukubajo that, with low frequencies and rubber strings will make you vibrate at your favorite rhythm. While the Ukubanjo gives that classic banjo resonance combined with the sweet and friendly Ukulele and it is thanks to its physical components that this original sound is achieved.
4.- Going viral
Did you know that one of the first Viral YouTube videos include a Ukulele? Well believe it or not, it was so and we full of emotion to say that I don'tit was in the video but it was a fundamental part of it and that is because the video we are talking about is a cover of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" by The Beatles performed by Jake Shimibakuro and that today today it has more than 16 million views.
Remember the first item on this list and how it was not so little known? Well, this is little known, funny and also has to do with the origin of the name of the Ukulele since, for many, the origin of the name is not entirely clear because, according to historian Jim Beloff, the queen Lili'uokalani he changed the popularized meaning up to that moment to give it a somewhat more poetic one using the other meanings of the words "Uku"And" Lele "which became" gift "and" llegacy "giving it the other possible meaning:" A gift that came from afar. "
We have always believed that our Ukulele partner is the most interesting and after these data we confirm it in the best way and if you also te confirmed it, remember that SYou can always share what you already knew, what you learned and what you will learn about the Ukulele withn your friends and with us in “Lto Ukuleleria"!
Thank you very much to Edgar Gómez Téllez for sharing this great blog!
