How to play petanque

How to play boules invented in France, bocce (pay-TAHNK) is a game similar to bowls, but the balls do not have to roll on the ground. The goal is to throw balls (metal balls of similar size to those of baseball) so that they land as close as possible to a bowling alley (a wooden ball of similar size to that of baseball).

You will need • 2 or 3 balls for each player • A bowling alley • A suitable area to play

How to play petanque?

Prepare a playground if you wish. This is usually an area of about 4 to 15 meters, with a minimum regulation of 3 by 12 meters.

Select two teams of one, two or three players each. Each player receives three balls to play, unless there are two teams or three, in which case each one normally receives two balls.

Decide which team plays before. Throwing a coin is the usual method. A player of the starting team draws a circle with a diameter of up to 50 cm.

The player then remains within this circle and throws the bowling alley so that it lands no more than 10 meters from the starting point, and that it has at least 1 meter of margin from any obstacle.

A player of this team stays inside the circle and throws a ball, trying to get as close to the bowling alley as possible.

A player from the opposite team now remains in the circle to bring a ball closer to the bowling alley than the first player.

The team of the player whose ball was closest to the bowling alley is now considered leader at this point.

The remaining members of this team throw their balls. Once the first team has completed their throws, the other throws their balls.

When all the balls have been thrown, the score for that "turn" (round) is counted. The player with the ball closest to the bowling wins 1 point. An additional point is awarded to each player of the same team who has a ball closer to the bowling than the closest to the opposing team.

Thus, a team can score up to 3 points in each turn. To start the turn, a player from the team that won the previous one draws a new circle, using the previous position of the bowling center, and throwing it again.

The game goes as before. The winning team is the first to get 13 points. Tips and warnings

• Each player's balls should be a different color or marked to avoid confusion.

• You are allowed to hit another player's ball with yours; In fact, this is a crucial skill.

• If the bowling is removed from the playing field, the turn is considered to be over. There is no point if both teams have balls remaining. If only one has them, mark 1 point for each ball.

• Players must keep both feet on the ground when they throw.

• Obstacles must not be removed from the playing field. petanque.wordpress.com/espanol www.ehowenespanol.com/jugar-petanca-como_26090/ Translated by natalia navarro
