Rare African Instruments

Africa It is characterized by many things but one of the most important is music, dance and its rare instruments.

Don't you know any of these rare African instruments? Here I am going to show you some and two of them we have available in DRUM (CDMX).

Let us begin...

Adungu

An adungu is a harp of 9 strings that originates in Uganda. They come in different sizes and tones that can be played alone or together in a set.
It is tuned to the diatonic scale of European classical music (Do, Re, Mi, Fa, Sol, La and Si, for example) and has the influence of the British presence in Uganda.

HOW IT SOUNDS?

Slit Drum

A cut drum is a hollow box, made of wood or bamboo, with tongue-shaped cuts. When it hits (usually with a mallet) it produces different throws depending on where it hits. I've seen them in music stores here in America and they sound great! There are different types and you can get different sounds depending on the wood, size and type of slit.

HOW IT SOUNDS?

Kalimba

A Kalima is a type of African thumb piano that consists of a hollow block of wood with metal tabs that produces notes when it is dotted.

HOW IT SOUNDS?

Zeze

A zeze is an instrument that consists of one to three strings, usually made of steel or a bicycle's brake wire, that can be started or played with a bow. It's a funny name, but it's great. I like that it is often done with only garbage parts. Talk about creating beauty from garbage!

HOW IT SOUNDS?

La Kora:

Consisting of a number of strings, up to 21, the Kora has a very unusual design. However, only that design gives it its distinctive African sound.
Its body consists of wood, nylon strings, the soundboard is made of gourd.
The guajes (pumpkins) come from Niger, since they are unquestionably the best, they have a regular shape, they are robust and round. Shriveled lambskin is also subject to our selection: not too thin or too thick and of course without any defect. All the wooden elements are in balafon wood.

HOW IT SOUNDS?

The Shekere:

One of the most famous musical sha instruments in Africa, the shekere is made with a wooden base and a firmly woven bread base that generates the unique sound.

HOW IT SOUNDS?

The Balafon:

The balafon closely resembles a xylophone and is an instrument that is typically found in Mali, Burkina Faso and Ivory Coast. Made of wooden planks, the sound of this device is produced by hitting it with miniature mallets.

HOW IT SOUNDS?

This was all for today's blog, I hope you liked a good one, remember that we always try to have the best songs and show you this wonderful African musical world.
